Cougar PRIDE Families,

It’s going to be another great week at Casis! In these last weeks of the school year, there will be so many action-packed activities all the way to the last day of school. Last week, we were visited by the All Rhythms Cuban percussion band. It was such a nice way to end the week. This week is ‘Track & Field Days’, which will begin with an Opening Ceremony. And we’ll all actually enjoy one more School Holiday next Monday (Memorial Day), before departing for the summer months. The remaining events in the month of May will bring closure to this school year, as we also plan for the next school year. We will also continue to focus on student learning growth and enrichment opportunities, as well as on safe and secure practices. Please see important information for the week below.

" "MEMORIAL DAY RECOGNITION (SCHOOL HOLIDAY)

Monday, May 25 will be observed as a Memorial Day and a School Holiday! Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States set aside to remember the people who died, while serving in the country’s armed forces. This holiday is observed every year on the last Monday of May and typically marks the start of the summer vacation season. As this school year has rapidly come to a close, please take some time to enjoy this day, but also to remember its significance.

Our 5th grade students will be taking their final 5th grade walk around the campus on Wednesday, May 27 at 8:00a.m. right after the morning announcements. Our graduating class will walk through the neighborhoods and outdoor spaces of the campus, celebrating their exit from elementary school and their entry into middle school. 5th Grade Families will be outside cheering and beaming with pride for their elementary graduates. And all classes will be in the neighborhoods (hallways) and outside classrooms to wish these students well and cheer them all on, as they prepare to leave our learning community. We’re so proud of them all!

" "CHARACTER STRONG IMPLEMENTATION & PRACTICES

This year, AISD and Casis Elementary are implementing a new Character Education and Behavioral Support program called Character Strong. This program is meant to provide students with the necessary skills and strategies to be the very best humans that they can be in the world. Students will hear morning messages and receive lessons from their teachers about topics like respect, gratitude, honesty, courage and more. Teachers will be providing weekly lessons and sending home monthly information to families about the different program topics learned each month. The lessons derive from a program called, “Purposefull People”. Here’s a Family Introductory Letter about Purposefull People. Each month we will cover a different Character Strong topic and resources will be shared to help families have meaningful conversations at home about the learned trait. Here’s an Overview of the monthly topics that will be taught. The Character Strong trait for the month of May is Creativity. Here’s the Family Connection Newsletter – Creativity for this month’s theme. We are so excited to be ‘Character Strong’ at Casis Elementary!
